FulpTube's origin stories

Just realized the 5 year anniversary of the original FulpTube is in a few days, so I feel like providing the backstory of it. This will be worded weirdly, as I don't want to namedrop anyone from the community.

Around November 2020, there used to be an ORC (Old Roblox Community) project known as "Novetus+". Sometime around then, the creator of it made a website loosely based on the early-2007 version of YouTube. The entire page was in Comic Sans and was very rough. The lukewarm reception led to an ORC member (who has gone through multiple aliases since) to announce the creation of a new project. If I recall correctly, I was one of the first people to join the server for it. The website wasn't even called "VidShr", it was that early. Development (and early beta testing?) of it began in November 2020, and it officially launched in January 2021. The community quickly grew to be toxic, and was primarily rivals with a bigger OYC project (which at the time had recently been updated to use the design of 2008 YouTube). In May 2021, the website collapsed after a rogue administrator threatened to leak everything. It was shortly succeeded with SubRocks, which was also short lived and was already defunct by the end of the year. There was another site called uTue, which wasn't really a proper project and didn't even last a month.

About the leak threats, I was told on Bob Pony's Discord server sometime around 2022 by a friend of someone involved with FulpTube that there existed a backup of the website which became lost shortly after the whole incident, Ouch.

As for the current incarnation of FulpTube, alternatively known as SquareBracket. It began development a few days before the original FulpTube, but it was going by "PokTube", a name which it kept until a few weeks after the January 31st 2021 launch. This site actually used to be rivals with the original FulpTube (mainly for petty reasons). Years after this, my friend shiypc managed to snatch the fulptube.rocks domain in 2024. Initially a temporary domain for an OYC-adjescant social media-inspired website, it later became SquareBracket's secondary domain as a joke. This joke ended up causing half of SquareBracket's web traffic to come from fulptube.rocks. In fact, just this year alone, nearly all of the accounts registered on it were coming from fulptube.rocks, so much so that I decided to rebrand SquareBracket as FulpTube (albeit crudely), and I plan on focusing more on the FulpTube side of the site in the future.

This may seem to be a shitty move for some, but I really don't think anyone is going on FulpTube today expecting for it to be the original one, drama and all. All they want is an experience akin to old YouTube. Is it the best reimplementation of it? Far from it, but it will be improved on in the future.

And no, this is not to compete with OYC sites, I want this to be its own thing, seperate from that clusterfuck.
