overtime, i'm more and more convinced my rtx 4060 (MSI VENTUS 2X BLACK OC GeForce RTX 4060 8 GB) gpu is defective. it's not dying, it's not randomly turning off and there's no graphical artifacts. it all seems to be related to outputting through my display. if i use displayport, there is some sort of "race condition"-like thing going on where i have to to plug in the cable just before it actually posts, otherwise i get no signal. this does not happen on hdmi. i have no idea why this happens and it also happens if i use my other display. as of writing, this i just discovered another problem with my gpu. now since it happens only on linux, it might be a problem with nvidia's drivers? but apparantly it can't output higher than 120hz or else my monitor (which is 180hz) doesn't pick it up. while x11 defaults to 60hz, wayland appears to default to 180hz, which makes it completely unusable. and there doesn't appear to be any way of forcing wayland to use 120hz??? what the fuck??? |
