the history of chaz craft

some of you may remember when earlier this year i replaced my then-current “bluey” fursona, chaz heeler, with a “dandys world” fursona called chaz craft. this was something i planned for a long while.

the idea of chaz heeler first came around the tail end of 2021 when i started having a hyperfixation with bluey, but i didn't really have a proper design in mind for him until august 2023. by then i had a really shitty and underdeveloped art style so all i was drawing was basically bluey. only bluey.

i eventually got sick with drawing in a crude bluey-esque art style but i had no choice. by the end of 2024 i started experimenting with updating his design, but it was mainly changing his color palette. i basically waited until i had a new hyperfixation (or well, phase?) to base my redesigned fursona on. and then came dandy’s world. it may not have been the best thing, primarily because of the iffy reputation it has because of the then-ongoing controversy involving rox, a former developer of the game who was outted as a child predator a few months prior. but I felt like dandys world was good enough as a basis since i wanted to redesign my fursona real bad.

the first prototype of chaz craft was made around january 3rd-4th 2025, and was loosely based on goob and scraps, with some inspiration being taken from the squarebracket logo. my initial idea for him in my lore was for him to be a third craft sibling. he was originally named “chaz not-heeler” as a placeholder because i didnt want to call him “chaz craft”, as i have a private modded minecraft server called “chazizcraft”. but i eventually started calling him “chaz craft” anyways. the original design for him was similar to what i have right now, but he had dark gray spots around his face, and his limbs were colored gray and white instead of gray and blue.

not too long after, i changed the idea to him being scraps and brightney’s kid, so his overall color palette was changed to yellow and reddish pink. this version wasn't finalized up until at least march, in which it finally replaced chaz heeler on this website’s homepage. the first finalized design was done by an artist i initially met on a dandys world run during my birthday.

eventually when yatta came out, his design was tweaked to feature blue spots, kinda like yatta. this was also around the same time i began work on a 3d rig of chaz craft. work started after some random annoying kid tried begging in my direct messages for the artist’s name over trying to get free art, in which the artist in question didn't feel comfortable because of this kid’s really shitty behavior. and honestly i did not want this to happen again. unfortunately, the initial reception of the rig/design within my friend group was lukewarm. so i went back to the gray-blue color palette but kept the current design.

and that's basically his design as of writing this.
