whats the deal with alternate social media platforms?

overtime ive seen more and more people flock over to bluesky because of twitter becoming more and more insufferable in general. and yet i still don't understand the appeal of bluesky.

i have had a bluesky account since about late-2023 back when it was still in beta, and since then ive logged onto bluesky like once every few months, and i swear nothing happens on there. maybe it's because i don't follow a lot of people, but my feed is comprised of nothing besides millennialslop and screenshots of tweets usually about us politics, usually about whatever shit trump does. ...and i guess theres furry porn. is this what tumblr used to feel back in 2015-2017?

it just feels fucking boring. its the millennial equivalent to boomer facebook. instead of old grandmas commenting "amen" to some ai generated image of a starving african child sitting next to some ungodly contraption made out of coke bottles and water bottles that just so happens to look like jesus, its people over the age of 30 circlejerking about how "thank god this isn't twitter because fuck elon!". now just a little disclaimer, i don't like elon and i don't like the direction twitter (err, "X") is going with shoving grok everywhere and trying to add useless shit for no reason. while i’m part of gen z, i do have people in my online friend group who are on bluesky. i have seen people i used to be twitter mutuals with for years move to bluesky. i have seen people i used to interact with later be on bluesky. and usually i don't understand them at all.

like ok, if you moved to bluesky because twitter has too much nazis, i can understand. but shit like “oh, elon ruined the block feature”? now thats the stuff i don't understand. arguably, blocking on bluesky is worse, because the apis for checking someone’s blocklist is completely public.

i also don't get the point of the fediverse, its all of the same shit. some instances are like bluesky while others are just outright fucked up stuff. im not gonna go on detail because i dont feel like bothering and at the moment im tired.

honestly, ever since i privated my twitter. i have preferred writing stuff on this blog (even if i rarely write anything) over posting on any social media. posting on social media now reminds me of when on family guy, lois posted “so THIS happened” with a photo of a chocolate-with-sprinkles cupcake on facebook, only to get no likes. its just not worth it anymore.
