after a year of this website being up, ive finally found a design i really like. its basic, simple, and doesnt bother looking modern. because honestly what's the point with looking modern? ive recently felt like the meta for modern website design has changed. everything now has to be some monochrome tailwind next.js slowass piece of shit that looks like it was "vibe coded" in two hours. when i was still working on squarebracket/opensb around the time it shutdown (or imploded) but before i stopped working on it, i remember every time i updated the dart-sass compiler i would get a bunch of deprecation warnings regarding specific parts of every style sheet of every frontend squarebracket offered at the time (bootstrap 5, finalium 1/"sbnext", finalium 2/"biscuit" and finalium 3/"charla"). i just don't get it. if it worked, why change shit? "ohhh this is to streamline this or make it easier that" No It Fucking Doesnt. all it makes me do is to fuck around moving shit around or doing refactors that eventually screw things up so badly i end up adding another "ignore deprecation" parameter in that scss compilation shell script. this is why none of my websites' backends are built with frameworks, because they constantly change and i can't be assed to redo half of the codebase over a Major Update but i have to because if i stay with the Previous Version then it turns out there's a Major Vulnerability in the Previous Version which can Fuck Shit Up! Amazing! the only thing i really use which i guess came from a framework is twig. ive had people come up to me over the years being like "why the fuck would you use twig it complicates things" like LMAO, squarebracket had a codebase called poktube prior to opensb and it REEKS. its a spaghetti mess full of echo commands and vulnerable database queries prone to injection. twig was a life saver honestly. its why back in the day i didnt give up with sb early on. this website's codebase is weird. it started out as a fork of a very early version of what was originally supposed to be a opensb rewrite but then became the codebase of a certain then-planned sb spinoff which eventually got scrapped altogether. thats why the whole site feels incomplete. tho i intend on improving it. i plan on adding some form of gallery page (which don't worry, itll be clean!) and a squarebracket upload takeout service. and maybe some other stuff, idk much, whatever. |
