yeah honestly ill finally come forward and say that squarebracket (formerly poktube and cheeserox) is dead. like actually dead. yeah im aware ive said this many times in the past but this time i really mean it. my current situation irl doesn't let me work on the site anymore and tbh i feel better that way. i did think about reworking squarebracket with a focus on social media rather than videos/images but honestly it wouldve ended up as a shitty dime-a-dozen twitter/"x" clone.
as of now i tend to keep things to myself now, so if squarebracket had come out of thst "indefinite hiatus" it would've been a walled garden. only way to register accounts would've been through invite keys provided only by staff (or well, me). i think its a waste of time to relaunch the site like that so why bother anymore.
squarebracket was one of those ideas i had as an egotistical kid. back when i thought i was gonna become (in my words at the time) the "next bill gates" or some stupid shit like that. i tried prototyping something at a young age on google sites (or google web? forgot what it was called), but it took me until 2020 to actually bother trying turning the site into reality. at the time, my main site project, 2003page, was on the verge of dying for good and i wanted something better. what ended up as a script kiddie fork of a preexisting codebase was shortly thrown out in favor of a half-baked pile of shit known as opensb, or "open squarebracket", a few months after the initial launch.
i legit fucked up my education for squarebracket. thats not a joke. i used to avoid school just to work on opensb. looking back at this, it was a completely moronic thing to do. squarebracket wasnt even made for profit (except for when it was under that rebrand for like a year, but it ended up not generating even a single dollar of ad revenue).
my long term plan is to get a job, instead of wasting more years of my life dealing with a dead website. so theres that.
in conclusion, if you're looking for an alternate platform to post videos, just stick with youtube. every other option sucks ass.
